Common Parent Questions

What Families Want to Know
About Medication Management

We know starting or adjusting medication can feel daunting. Here are the questions we hear most often — answered clearly.

What happens at the first visit?

Your child’s first appointment is a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation. We review medical history, developmental history, symptoms, school performance, previous treatments, current medications, and family concerns. We then discuss treatment recommendations and medication options when appropriate.

How often are follow-up appointments?

Follow-up appointments are typically scheduled every 2–8 weeks depending on clinical needs. Children starting new medications may require more frequent visits initially to monitor effectiveness and adjust dosing as needed.

What conditions do you treat with medication?

We provide medication management for ADHD, anxiety, depression, emotional regulation difficulties, behavioral concerns, sleep concerns, autism-related behavioral concerns, and other developmental and mental health conditions.

Is telehealth available for medication management?

Yes. Telehealth medication management appointments are available throughout Texas when clinically appropriate. This makes it easy for families across the state to receive consistent, high-quality psychiatric care without the burden of travel.

Do medications replace therapy?

No. Medication is only one part of treatment. We strongly encourage collaboration with therapists, schools, primary care providers, and families. Our providers work as part of your child’s broader care team — not in isolation.

Will my family be involved in the treatment plan?

Absolutely. Family-centered care is at the heart of everything we do. Treatment plans are developed collaboratively with families — your input, concerns, and observations are essential to your child’s care.
